FS Jelgava have announced the loan departures of two players to Czech club MFK Vítkovice – defender Kristers Aļekseičiks and attacking midfielder Kristofers Reķis.
The nearly two-metre-tall centre-back Aļekseičiks joined Jelgava last year and, at 25 years old, completed the most substantial season of his senior career. He made 29 league appearances and scored one goal.
A product of the Ventspils football school, Aļekseičiks made his Virslīga debut with FK Ventspils. During his career he has also represented Valmiera FC and FK Tukums 2000. In total, he has played 69 matches in the Latvian top flight, scoring six goals.
Meanwhile, 23-year-old Kristofers Reķis only joined Jelgava this winter after leaving his childhood club FK Metta. Last season, Reķis featured in 34 Virslīga matches for Metta, scoring six goals. The attacking midfielder, who can also operate on the wing, has already accumulated 106 Virslīga appearances, finding the net 11 times.
In their official statement, FS Jelgava noted that MFK Vítkovice is a historically significant club that won the Czechoslovak championship in 1986. The team currently competes in the Moravian – Silesian Football League (MSFL), the third tier of Czech football. The club’s stated objective is to develop local talent and preserve regional sporting traditions.
Importantly, MFK Vítkovice are a cooperation partner of Czech top-flight side Baník Ostrava. Jelgava began a working relationship with Baník last year, sending young players and coaches there for training placements. The loans of Alekseičiks and Reķis are described as the next step in strengthening that partnership.
