Žalgiris have officially appointed Andrius Tapinas as the club’s president following a shareholders’ vote.
The decision was taken at a meeting on Monday, 26 January, when shareholders discussed the vacancy and then voted unanimously to hand Tapinas the role. He has agreed to present candidates for vice-presidents at the next shareholders’ meeting.
“Plenty of work and plenty of responsibility lies ahead, but also plenty of enthusiasm,” Tapinas said after his appointment. “I’m setting high targets – A Lyga matches must average 2,500 spectators, the club’s budget must reach at least €6m over the next few years, and people in Vilnius must feel this is genuinely their city’s team. If we don’t achieve that, then I don’t know what I’m doing here.”
A new seven-member board was also elected at the meeting. The board will include Mindaugas Kasperūnas, Tadas Burgaila, Tapinas, Vilnius City Municipality representatives Edvinas Eimontas and Giedrius Krasauskas, supporters’ representative Linas Kuprusevičius, and Aleksandr Sanikov, representing shareholder company Valoras.
