The first promising attacking moments arrived midway through the opening period. Kauno Žalgiris forward Leon Krekovic and Sūduva’s Faustas Steponavičius both attempted to threaten the opposition goal, but their efforts were blocked before reaching the respective goalkeepers.
The hosts subsequently created one of the better opportunities of the first half following a well-executed set-piece routine. Žygimantas Baltrūnas found space to shoot, forcing Kauno Žalgiris goalkeeper Tomas Švedkauskas into an important save.
Despite occasional attacking opportunities at both ends, neither team managed to break the deadlock before half-time, leaving the score at 0-0.
Sūduva continued to pose problems after the restart and nearly took the lead in the 53rd minute. Frankline Tangiri produced an impressive run down the right flank before directing a dangerous effort towards goal, once again requiring Švedkauskas to intervene.
Kauno Žalgiris responded with an opportunity of their own when Anthony Kalik connected with a header, but Sūduva goalkeeper Giedrius Zenkevičius was well positioned to deny the visitors.
As the second half progressed, the match remained evenly balanced, with both defences largely succeeding in limiting the opposition’s attacking opportunities.
Sūduva suffered a setback towards the end of the contest when Titas Milašius was forced off through injury, adding to the hosts’ difficulties as they attempted to secure a positive result.
In the final minute of regulation time, Kauno Žalgiris midfielder Amadou Sabo attempted an ambitious effort from distance, but his shot sailed well off target.
The decisive moments arrived during stoppage time. First, Kauno Žalgiris goalkeeper Švedkauskas almost gifted Sūduva a goal following a mistake, but the visitors managed to escape without conceding.
Just moments later, the action shifted to the opposite end of the pitch, where Kauno Žalgiris produced the breakthrough that could prove decisive in the title race. Joris Moutachy delivered an excellent ball into the penalty area, and Renan Oliveira rose to meet it with a header that beat Zenkevičius, sparking celebrations among the visitors.
With little time remaining for Sūduva to respond, Oliveira’s goal proved enough to secure a 1-0 victory and three valuable points for Kauno Žalgiris.
The result leaves Kauno Žalgiris on 54 points after 33 rounds, four points clear of their closest rivals, Vilnius Žalgiris and Sūduva, as they move another step closer to securing back-to-back Lithuanian championship titles.
