Lithuania national team goalkeeper Edvinas Gertmonas delivered another clean-sheet performance in Romania’s top division as Universitatea Cluj claimed a 1-0 home victory over Unirea Slobozia.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper once again started between the posts, continuing his strong form following an outstanding display six days earlier in Bucharest. In that match, Gertmonas made nine saves in a narrow 0-1 defeat away to Dinamo Bucuresti as the Romanian league resumed after the winter break.
This time, his workload was considerably lighter, with Gertmonas required to make just one save as Universitatea Cluj controlled much of the match.
The hosts scored the game’s only goal early on, when Andrei Gheorghita found the net in the fifth minute to give Cluj an advantage they would not relinquish.
Gertmonas has now made 12 league appearances for Universitatea Cluj this season, recording an impressive seven clean sheets in the process.
The victory lifted Universitatea Cluj to sixth place in the standings with 36 points from 23 matches. Gertmonas and his teammates will face a stern test next Saturday, when they travel to Bucharest to take on Rapid Bucuresti, who currently sit third in the table, six points ahead of Cluj.
