Lithuanian national team goalkeeper Edvinas Gertmonas could be set to continue his career in the Greek Super League, with reports indicating that Panetolikos have submitted an offer for the experienced shot-stopper.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper has spent nearly the past two years with Universitatea Cluj in Romania’s top division, where he has established himself as one of the club’s key leaders. Gertmonas played a crucial role in helping the team qualify for European competition for the first time in 20 years last season.
This season, Gertmonas has continued his strong form. After beginning the campaign on the bench, he reclaimed his position as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and has since made 10 league appearances, conceding just six goals and keeping an impressive six clean sheets.
According to our information, Panetolikos have officially approached Universitatea Cluj with a transfer offer for the Lithuanian international. The Greek club, which has never won the Greek Cup or the Greek league title, has nevertheless been a consistent presence in the top flight, competing in the Super League for 13 consecutive seasons. After 15 rounds, Panetolikos currently sit ninth in the standings with 15 points.
Universitatea Cluj have yet to make a final decision on whether to accept the offer. Should the move go through, the Romanian side would receive a transfer fee for the goalkeeper.
Gertmonas has earned 23 caps for the Lithuanian national team and previously spent several seasons with FK Žalgiris Vilnius. Earlier in his career, he was also part of the Stade Rennais academy system in France.
