SK Super Nova will enter the 2026 Virslīga season with a new man in charge. Late last night, head coach Ervīns Pērkons announced on Instagram that he is leaving the club after two years at the helm – a decision the club confirmed on its social channels this morning.
Pērkons, 35, took over Super Nova ahead of the 2024 campaign with a clear mandate: bring the team back to the top flight after relegation. He delivered. Under his leadership, Super Nova won the Nākotnes Līga title and secured an immediate return to Virslīga.
This season, Pērkons’ side became one of the league’s grittiest competitors. Super Nova earned a Virslīga-record 14 draws – matching the tally of his former club, FS Jelgava – and showed remarkable resilience throughout the campaign. A decisive victory over FK Liepāja on the final matchday lifted the team to 8th place, ensuring safety without the need for relegation playoffs.
With survival accomplished, Pērkons chose to close his chapter.
In his farewell message, he wrote:
“Today I say goodbye to SK Super Nova as Head Coach. It has been an absolute privilege and the honor of my professional life to lead this club and stand on the sidelines with you.
I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the player. We shared incredible highs and learned tough lessons together, and those memories will stay with me forever. While my journey at Super Nova ends here, the club will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Before joining Super Nova, Pērkons spent several seasons with FS Jelgava, where he also achieved promotion to Virslīga by winning the 2022 Nākotnes Līga. His first spell in the top division was short-lived, ending after nine rounds by mutual agreement.
