In the final match of the 34th round of the Estonian Premium Liiga, FCI Levadia struck three times in a blistering six-minute spell in the first half to secure a 3-1 away win over Pärnu JK Vaprus. The victory allowed Levadia to cut league leaders Flora Tallinn’s advantage to just one point, after Flora dropped points earlier in the day against Paide.
Levadia entered the round three points behind Flora, having lost to Paide Linnameeskond in the previous fixture. With only three matches remaining, their title hopes depended on winning all remaining games and Flora slipping up twice. One of those setbacks came today, as Flora, playing with ten men, could only draw 1-1 away to Paide.
Determined to seize their chance, Levadia began the match in dominant fashion and effectively decided it early. In the 13th minute, Mark Roosnupp opened the scoring with a clinical finish from the middle of the box following Edgar Tur’s cross from the right flank.
Barely a minute later, a defensive blunder by Vaprus allowed Mihkel Ainsalu to launch a counterattack and set up Til Mavretič, who netted his first goal of the season to double the lead.
The onslaught continued. A long pass found Edgar Tur on the right side, and with the Pärnu goalkeeper rushing inexplicably out of his goal, Tur sent a cross into the area where Ainsalu calmly tapped the ball into the empty net – 3-0.
That first-half flurry was enough to secure the victory. Levadia eased off after the break, and the home side managed to pull one back through 17-year-old prodigy Marten-Chris Paalberg, who scored his 15th goal of the season. The young striker timed his run perfectly to meet Limberg’s cross and slot home between Levadia’s centre-backs.
Vaprus had a few chances late on to reduce the deficit further, but couldn’t find the target as Levadia held firm to claim an important win that keeps the title race alive.
Levadia now face two away fixtures to close out the season – against JK Narva Trans and Harju JK Laagri – as they continue their pursuit of Flora. Meanwhile, Pärnu JK Vaprus, who could still overtake Narva Trans in the standings, will finish their season with tough matches against Paide Linnameeskond and FC Flora Tallinn, where they’ll aim to spoil Flora’s potential title celebrations in the final round.
