Latvijas Virslīga 33rd round saw a tense goalless draw between FK Grobiņa and SK Super Nova – the fourth time this season the two sides have finished level. With this result, SK Super Nova set a new league record for the most draws in a single season (13), surpassing previous marks set by Rīgas Daugava in 2012 and Riga FC in 2016.
Grobiņa entered the match with renewed momentum after two straight 1-0 victories under interim coach Oskars Kļava, looking to widen the gap to the relegation zone. SK Super Nova, led by Ervīns Pērkons, aimed to snap a five-match winless run and leapfrog their rivals with a victory.
The two sides had drawn all their meetings this season, and this encounter followed the same pattern. Grobiņa were without coach Kļava on the bench due to suspension, with assistant Antons Jemeļins taking charge. Compared to their previous match against FK Tukums 2000/Telms, the hosts made two changes – Pape Doudou and Gļebs Kļuškins returned to the starting XI. SK Super Nova also made two adjustments, with goalkeeper Nils Toms Puriņš starting again and Dāvis Vējkrīgers replacing Artem Marchuk.
The first real chance came in the 20th minute when Ryuga Nakamura tested former teammate Frenks Orols, but the Grobiņa keeper saved comfortably. Orols was called into action again soon after, denying Kristers Čudars’ long-range effort. Grobiņa’s best chance of the half came late, but Artjoms Puzirevskis’ weak header was easily claimed by Puriņš.
Both sides pushed harder after the break. Dāvis Družiņins forced Puriņš into a strong save with a header, while at the other end, Dmytro Sula rattled the crossbar with a powerful strike.
Tensions rose in stoppage time when Grobiņa were reduced to ten men after VAR upgraded Pape Doudou’s yellow card to red for a reckless foul on Čudars. Super Nova nearly snatched the winner, but Orols came up big again to keep the score level.
With this draw, both teams extend their lead over bottom-placed FK Metta. Grobiņa now sit six points clear, while SK Super Nova hold a four-point advantage. The record-breaking 13th draw of the season underscores Super Nova’s resilience in a tense relegation fight.
