In the final matches of Round 32 of the Latvian Virslīga, BFC Daugavpils claimed a vital 1-0 home victory over FK Auda, thanks to a first-half strike from Wally Fofana. The win lifts Daugavpils above Auda in the standings into fourth place, while later in the evening, reigning champions FC RFS cruised to a 5-1 win against FK Metta.
Before this match, Daugavpils trailed Auda by just one point, making the encounter crucial in the race for European qualification. With the Latvian Cup final between Riga FC and FK Auda set for late October, a Riga victory would hand the fourth-placed team the final European spot – raising the stakes for Daugavpils even higher.
After back-to-back defeats against Riga’s top clubs, Daugavpils were determined to bounce back following a three-match winning streak earlier in the campaign. Their intent was clear early on, as Wally Fofana struck in the 12th minute, finishing off a brilliant solo run with a precise shot from outside the box that beat Auda goalkeeper Roberts Ozols.
Both sides created chances as the first half unfolded, but no further goals came before the break. In the second half, the suspended Auda coach Jurģis Kalns made his presence felt in the stands – allegedly giving instructions to his staff via radio communication.
Auda pushed for an equalizer, and Eduards Dašķevičs came close late on, but his header was denied by Jānis Beks, ensuring Daugavpils held on for a huge win as they aim for a top-four finish for the first time ever.
With four rounds remaining, Daugavpils now lead Auda by two points. After the international break, they will visit FS Jelgava and FK Metta, while hosting SK Super Nova and FK Liepāja. Meanwhile, Auda’s run-in includes home games against FK Liepāja and FK Tukums 2000, away trips to FK Metta, and a season finale against FK Grobiņa.

In the evening’s second fixture, FC RFS maintained their mathematical title hopes, hammering FK Metta 5-1. Jānis Ikaunieks, Ismael Diomande, Mor Talla Gaye, and Žiga Lipušček all found the net in a commanding second-half display.
The victory keeps RFS eight points behind league leaders Riga FC, while FK Metta remain bottom of the table with 24 points, three adrift of SK Super Nova in the battle to avoid relegation.
