FCI Levadia who earlier this week looked like are out of the championship race strengthened their title push with a 3-1 home win over Tallinna Kalev in Premium Liiga round 30. Goals at the start of both halves gave the hosts control, while veteran Ats Purje struck late to give Kalev some reward for their effort.

The opener came inside four minutes when Mark Oliver Roosnupp cut inside from the left and curled a fine shot past Max Weinstein. Kalev slowly settled, forcing Karl Andre Vallner into action before halftime, but Levadia remained on top with Bubacarr Tambedou twice denied by offside calls.

Just after the restart, Joao Pedro set up Mihkel Ainsalu for 2-0, and the midfielder added his second in the 73rd minute with a composed lob to seal the points. Kalev’s 40-year-old veteran Purje, introduced from the bench, pulled one back on 80 minutes, and Kalev’s pressure increased after Frank Liivak saw red shortly after coming on. Despite late chances, Levadia held firm.

The result leaves Levadia level on 66 points with Flora, who slipped to a surprise 3-1 defeat against Nõmme Kalju. With six matches remaining, the championship race is finely poised.
