After surrendering top spot in the Premium Liiga and allowing Flora to open up a six-point gap, Levadia boss Curro Torres has stepped forward to take full responsibility for his team’s recent struggles.
On Wednesday evening at 19:00, the capital rivals will clash again at A. Le Coq Arena, just a week after Flora’s 3-1 win in the same fixture. Torres made no attempt to hide the magnitude of the rematch:
“It’s a decisive game for us. If we want to keep the title race alive, we need three points – there’s no other way around it,” he stressed.
Levadia’s inconsistent run has left them chasing, but Torres isn’t pointing fingers. “We’ve let important points slip away, and that’s on me. I’m the one accountable for the situation the team is in.”
Asked whether he worries about his position, the Spaniard was defiant: “Fear has never been part of my life. That’s exactly the mindset I expect my players to show out there – football is meant to be played under pressure.”
Despite Flora’s current edge, Torres remains convinced of Levadia’s potential: “I respect Flora, but in my view, we’re the strongest side in the league. Tomorrow, we have to prove it on the pitch.”
There was at least some positive news for Levadia ahead of the derby. Captain Rasmus Peetson, who limped off with a muscle issue in the first half against Nõmme Kalju, has already returned to training and will be fit to lead the team tomorrow.
