The 30th round of the TonyBet Virslīga kicked off today with a tense clash between FK Tukums 2000 and FK Metta. In a dramatic encounter, the home side Tukums earned a vital 3-2 victory thanks to their talisman Ingars Pūlis, who struck twice in the second half to keep his team clear of relegation danger.

Heading into the match, the two sides were neck and neck in the league standings, with Tukums holding just a one-point advantage over Metta. This was the final head-to-head meeting of the season between the clubs, with Tukums having the edge – securing back-to-back wins in their last two duels.

Tukums entered the match after a tough defeat against FK Liepāja, while Metta had ended a four-game winless streak last week by beating SK Super Nova 2-1.

Metta made a dream start in Tukums, taking the lead inside the opening minute. Daniils Činajevs slipped through Kristofers Reķis, and the 22-year-old attacking player coolly finished one-on-one with the goalkeeper to net his fifth goal of the campaign.

The home side, shaken at first, quickly responded. In the 11th minute, Dāvis Mārcis Valmiers sent in a cross from the left that drifted straight into the net, catching Metta keeper Alvis Sorokins off guard. The goal was later credited as an own goal to Mohamed Kamara, who recently made his senior international debut for Sierra Leone.

Tukums took control after the break. Following a corner delivered by Niks Dusalijevs, league’s second-highest scorer Ingars Pūlis – back after missing two games – rose above everyone and powered home a header for his 15th goal of the season.

Late in the match, Pūlis sealed the points. After earning a penalty, the striker converted from the spot himself, raising his tally to 16 goals for the season.

Metta did manage to pull one back in stoppage time through Alans Kangars after a corner, but the final whistle blew immediately after the goal, confirming Tukums’ 3-2 triumph.

The win lifts FK Tukums 2000 up to seventh place in the table, five points clear of bottom-placed FK Grobiņa. Metta, meanwhile, remain ninth, now four points adrift of their rivals from Tukums.

Looking ahead, FK Tukums 2000 will host SK Super Nova next Sunday, while FK Metta face their most important fixture of the season next Friday, when they welcome FK Grobiņa in a true relegation showdown.
