The Latvian Virslīga has announced its monthly award winners for August, with FK Liepāja striker Djibril Gueye named Player of the Month and FK Tukums 2000 coach Kristaps Dišlers recognized as Coach of the Month.
The Senegalese forward played a crucial role in Liepāja’s strong run, where the club recorded three wins from four matches – defeating FS Jelgava, BFC Daugavpils, and FK Metta, while only slipping up against SK Super Nova. The results consolidated Liepāja’s hold on third place in the table, giving them a seven-point cushion over their closest rivals, BFC Daugavpils and FK Auda.
The 28-year-old Gueye started all four matches, scoring three goals. Two came in the victory against Jelgava, while the other was a vital strike against Daugavpils. With 13 goals this season, Gueye currently sits third in the league’s top scorers’ chart.
On the sidelines, Kristaps Dišlers received the Coach of the Month honor – his first such award in the Virslīga. The 39-year-old who has been at the helm of Tukums 2000 since 2020 guided them through a mixed August, collecting one win, one draw, and two narrow defeats. His side secured a key home victory over FK Auda, earned a valuable away draw against Jelgava, and narrowly lost to Riga FC and BFC Daugavpils.
