The Lithuanian national team has suffered another blow in attack, as forward Gytis Paulauskas has been ruled out for approximately two months with a stress fracture in his foot.

The 25-year-old striker, who joined Slovakian top-flight club Zemplín Michalovce this summer in a transfer from Ukrainian Premier League side Kolos Kovalivka, had started the season brightly. In his first six league appearances, he scored three goals and provided two assists, quickly establishing himself as an important figure for his new team.

Paulauskas’ injury adds to Lithuania’s growing list of absentees in attack, with Armandas Kučys and Manfredas Ruzgis already sidelined. The forward had featured in both of last week’s FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures, starting against Malta and coming off the bench versus the Netherlands.

His absence leaves the national team shorter of options ahead of the crucial October international window, with the coaching staff now expected to seek new solutions.
