Serie A side Como 1907 have secured the signing of Latvian youth international Deniss Deņisovs, who joins the club’s academy system on loan with an option to buy, according to the official Serie A transfer listings.

The 16-year-old central defender is a product of Rīgas Futbola Skola and has featured regularly this season in the Latvian U-17 Academy Championship, where he made 11 appearances and scored one goal. Italian media report that Como sees him as a promising long-term addition to their youth setup.

Earlier this year Deņisovs was on trial in various clubs in Italy which includes Juventus and Genoa.

Deņisovs becomes the second Latvian player to link up with Como’s youth system, joining striker Kristians Mežsargs, who moved to the club last winter and has already featured in Primavera matches.

At international level, Deņisovs has represented Latvia’s U-17 national team, earning six caps to date.
