FC RFS forward Faycal Konate has been rewarded with his first call-up to the Burkina Faso national team ahead of their upcoming FIFA World Cup African qualifiers against Djibouti and Egypt.
The 19-year-old, standing nearly two meters tall, has impressed in his debut professional season. Konate began the campaign with RFS’ reserve team and spent a brief loan spell at BFC Daugavpils during the summer, where he made a strong impact, scoring four goals in seven appearances. Returning to the RFS first team, he continued his promising form, helping the club reach the Latvian Cup semi-finals with a goal in a 3-2 victory over FK Metta.
Burkina Faso currently sit second in their CAF World Cup qualifying group, with 11 points from six matches – five points behind group leaders Egypt and three ahead of Sierra Leone. While first place guarantees direct qualification for the World Cup, second place still offers the chance to compete for a spot in the tournament.
The national team’s upcoming fixtures include a game against Djibouti on September 5, followed by a clash with group leaders Egypt four days later.
Also included in the squad is former JK Narva Trans forward Pierre Landry Kabore, who recently moved to Hearts in the Scottish Premiership and has already featured in two matches for his new club.
