Lithuanian side FC Džiugas Telšiai has bolstered its midfield with a new signing for the second half of the season – Argentine midfielder Gaston Manuel Romano. The 27-year-old’s most recent stint was in Romania, and he now joins Džiugas as the team looks to push even higher in the league standings.

Romano is a product of the prestigious River Plate and Huracan academies in Argentina. He made the leap to European football in 2019, signing with Portuguese side Espinho. After gaining experience in Portugal’s lower leagues, he stepped up to the second division, featuring for Estrela Amadora. A brief spell in Italy followed, where he suited up for Serie C side Taranto.

After his time in Italy, the midfielder returned to Portugal for a full season with second-tier club Belenenses. During the campaign, he made 30 league appearances, scoring once and providing three assists. Last season, Romano began with Romanian top-flight club FC Botoșani, making four appearances before parting ways with the club in January 2025.

Now, Romano arrives in Telšiai with the goal of helping Džiugas reach new heights. The team currently sits in an impressive fifth place in the league table with 31 points from 22 matches – just four points shy of fourth-placed FA Šiauliai.

Džiugas fans might not have to wait long to see their new Argentine signing in action, as the club is set to face second-placed FC Hegelmann this coming Monday.
