On Thursday, Italian Serie A club Torino officially announced the contract extension of 21-year-old Lithuanian midfielder Gvidas Gineitis. The new deal will keep him at the club until June 30, 2029, with an option to extend for an additional season.
Gineitis began his football journey in his hometown of Kaunas, Lithuania, with the National Football Academy (NFA). He made his professional debut in 2018 at just 15 years old, appearing in two matches in Lithuania’s second division. In 2019, he moved to FK Atmosfera, where he continued to build his reputation as a promising young midfielder.
His breakthrough came in the summer of 2020, when he moved to Italy to join SPAL. There, he progressed through the club’s youth ranks, featuring for the U17, U18, and Primavera sides. His performances caught the attention of Torino, who signed him in February 2022.
After completing his development within Torino’s youth setup, Gineitis was promoted to the senior squad for the 2022–23 season. He wasted no time making an impact, establishing himself as a reliable presence in the midfield.
Gineitis made his Serie A debut on February 10, 2023, in a match against AC Milan. Since then, he has accumulated 49 appearances in Italy’s top flight, netting three goals. This past season, he featured in 30 league matches, starting 15 of them. He scored his first Serie A goal on January 19 against Fiorentina, before adding two more crucial strikes: a memorable match-winner versus AC Milan and a late equalizer against Lazio.
On the international stage, Gineitis has also become a key figure for Lithuania. He has earned 22 caps and scored twice for the senior national team.
