In the only match of the 19th round of the TOPsport A Lyga today, DFK Dainava Alytus and FK Džiugas faced off in a crucial clash between two teams aiming to change their trajectories. In the end, Džiugas converted their chances better and secured a confident 2–0 victory.
Dainava, stuck at the bottom of the table, looked to bounce back, while Džiugas, eager to recover from a painful defeat the previous week, were looking to came out with determination.
The opening minutes saw chances on both sides. For the visitors, Oleksandr Kurtsev and Simonas Urbys tested Dainava goalkeeper Airidas Mickevičius, while Dainava responded with an effort from in-form striker Krystian Okoniewski who had scored four goals in the last three league games, but both keepers were alert and kept the score level.
In the 33rd minute, Obi Chinonso whipped in a sharp cross that caused chaos in Džiugas’ penalty area, but Marius Paukštė reacted quickly to prevent a goal. Moments later, Lukas Ankudinovas produced a clever backheel pass to Deitonas Vinckus, whose shot, however, went off target.
Just before halftime, Džiugas took the lead. Vyacheslav Kulbachuk delivered a well-placed free kick, which captain Lukas Ankudinovas met to head home, giving the visitors a 1–0 advantage.
Džiugas doubled their lead in the 63rd minute. Simonas Urbys picked out Ibrahim Cissé, who unleashed a precise strike into the top corner, leaving Mickevičius no chance.
Vinckus had a great opportunity to seal the game soon after, but this time Mickevičius managed to deny him with another strong save.
In the final minutes, Dainava’s debutant Nikoloz Nakashidze received a second yellow card for dissent, reducing the home side to ten men.
With this victory, Džiugas climbed to fifth place in the standings with 27 points, while Dainava remained in last place with just 10 points from 19 matches.
