FK Auda overturned a one-goal deficit to secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory over SK Super Nova at LNK Sporta Parks in the Virslīga Matchday 10. The hero of the night was Panamanian teenager Josue Vergara, whose brace proved decisive.
The match began cautiously, with both sides locked in midfield battles and struggling to create clear chances. It was Super Nova who struck first, capitalizing on a moment of individual quality. After a long ball found Valērijs Lizunovs on the left flank, he cut inside and created space for a shot, firing through a defender’s legs and into the near corner past goalkeeper Nils Toms Puriņš.
Auda responded at the perfect time – just before halftime. Vergara found himself in the right place inside the box and calmly finished with a single touch after a precise delivery from Wally Fofana, bringing the visitors level and shifting momentum heading into the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with few clear-cut opportunities early on. Auda gradually began to apply pressure, creating their first real chance in the 63rd minute, but Super Nova goalkeeper Dāvis Viljams Veisbuks was equal to the task, producing an excellent save to deny Edvin Bongemba.
Set pieces became Auda’s primary weapon as the pressure mounted. They earned a remarkable 14 corners over the course of the match, and Veisbuks was repeatedly called into action – first denying Moussa Ouedraogo and then pulling off an even more impressive save to stop Deniss Meļņiks’ header.
Inevitably, the breakthrough came from another delivery into the box. Tin Hrvoj’s cross to the far post was met brilliantly by Vergara, who guided the ball into the net with the outside of his foot for a superb finish – his eighth goal of the season.
Super Nova nearly responded immediately, coming agonizingly close to an equalizer when captain Mārcis Ošs struck the post. However, Auda held firm in the closing stages to secure all three points.
The victory temporarily lifts Auda to the top of the table and reinforces their status as one of the league’s most resilient sides. Meanwhile, Super Nova’s early-season momentum continues to fade, with this result marking their fourth defeat in the last five matches.
Auda will look to build on this momentum when they host FK Grobiņa next, while Super Nova face a challenging trip to FS Jelgava in their upcoming fixture.
