FK Tukums 2000 claimed an impressive 2-1 home victory over FK Auda in the Tonybet Virslīga Matchday 18 match, dealing a blow to the visitors’ hopes of keeping pace with the league leaders.
Much of the pre-match attention surrounded Auda striker Josue Vergara. Earlier in the day, the club officially confirmed the Panamanian teenager’s transfer to Belgian side KAA Gent in what is reported to be a Virslīga record deal worth around €3 million. The 18-year-old began the match on the bench and only entered the field during the final quarter of an hour.
Auda started the stronger side, creating several early opportunities through Kader Kone, Tin Hrvoj and Barthelemy Diedhiou, but Ivan Baturins stood firm in the Tukums goal. The home side gradually grew into the match and found the breakthrough in spectacular fashion after half an hour.
Spotting Nils Puriņš well off his line, Tukums captain Bogdans Samoilovs unleashed an audacious effort from more than 35 yards out that sailed over the goalkeeper and into the top corner to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
The advantage lasted only five minutes. Auda responded immediately with sustained pressure and eventually found an equaliser in the 35th minute. Oskars Rubenis was in the right place at the right time to finish from close range after Tukums failed to fully clear the danger, making it 1-1 before the interval.
The visitors nearly carried that momentum into the second half, but Kone missed a good chance shortly after the restart. Instead, it was Tukums who struck next.
In the 62nd minute Samoilovs turned provider, leading a quick counterattack before finding Ede Oloko. The league’s top scorer used his strength to hold off Ariel Arroyo before drilling a left-footed effort into the bottom corner to restore Tukums’ lead.
The hosts looked dangerous whenever they broke forward and came close to extending their advantage. Maksym Derkach produced several threatening runs from the left flank and forced Puriņš into action, while Oloko continued to trouble the Auda back line.
Looking for a way back into the match, Auda introduced Vergara and Lusweki in the 76th minute. The visitors pushed forward relentlessly during the closing stages and created several chances. Lusweki forced a save from Baturins, Ouedraogo headed narrowly wide, Bongemba missed from inside the area and Vergara himself came also close when he fired just past the post five minutes from time.
Tukums thanks to this win move back to eight place in the league table with 17 points, while FK Auda sit comfortably in the third place.
