FK TransINVEST saw their winning streak come to an end in dramatic fashion in the closing match of the 12th round of the Lithuanian Toplyga, rescuing a 1-1 draw at home against FK Sūduva thanks to a stunning stoppage-time goal from Jeudi Stevenson.
This was the second meeting between the two sides this season. Sūduva had won the first encounter 2-0, but overall it has been newly promoted TransINVEST who have enjoyed the stronger campaign so far. Before kickoff, TransINVEST sat third in the table, only one point behind second-placed Džiugas Telšiai, while Sūduva entered the match in sixth, four points further back.
The visitors arrived to Hegelmann ground under pressure after a disappointing week that included a Lithuanian Cup elimination against second-tier side Minija and dropped points in the league against struggling FA Šiauliai. TransINVEST, meanwhile, came into the match riding a four-game winning streak across all competitions.
The first half produced few clear chances. After 20 minutes, Sūduva created the first dangerous moment when Faustas Steponavičius beat his defender and fired toward the near post, but goalkeeper Mantas Bertašius reacted well to collect the shot.
TransINVEST responded with a couple of opportunities of their own. Midfielder Domantas Šluta headed over the crossbar, while later in the half Edvinas Kloniūnas tested goalkeeper Ignas Plūkas from a set piece. At the other end, Yusuke Omori also came close for Sūduva, firing narrowly over the bar.
The match remained tense and balanced deep into the second half before finally exploding into life in the closing minutes. After a chaotic sequence inside the penalty area, Lucky Tomas reacted quickest to put Sūduva ahead and seemingly hand the visitors a much-needed victory.
However, TransINVEST refused to give up. Already in stoppage time, Haitian forward Jeudi Stevenson produced a spectacular equaliser, rescuing a point for the home side and extending their unbeaten run.
Despite the draw, Marius Stankevičius’ team climbed to second place in the standings with 21 points, while Sūduva remain sixth with 17 points after missing out on victory in heartbreaking fashion.
