FC RFS completed the Latvian Cup quarter-final line-up with a steady 2-0 home win against Jelgava at LNK Sporta Parks, helped by an early red card to Jegors Novikovs, that left the visitors on the back foot from the outset.

Jelgava were reduced to 10 men in the second minute when Jegors Novikovs was shown a straight red card following a sliding tackle on Saidy just outside the penalty area. Despite the setback, the away side resisted sustained pressure for much of the first half, with goalkeeper Adam Dvorak repeatedly called into action.

RFS eventually made the breakthrough on 37th minute as experienced defender Roberts Savaļnieks found the net with a rare header from Mankenda’s cross to put Viktors Morozs’ side in front. The hosts were relentless before the interval, registering 18 shots in the opening 45 minutes, 10 of them on target but few truly dangerous.

The tie was settled soon after the hour mark. In the 59th minute Savaļnieks turned provider, supplying the pass for striker Darko Lemajič to make it 2-0.

RFS eased off in the closing stages, managing the game comfortably as Morozs rotated his squad. Among the changes was the return of 20-year-old Ivorian forward Mamadou Sylla, freshly back with RFS after spending much of the season on loan at Daugavpils.
