Tartu JK Tammeka continued their impressive run of form in the Premium Liiga, defeating Nõmme United 3-1 at Tamme Stadium to secure a third consecutive league victory for the first time since 2019.
Tammeka entered the match full of confidence after back-to-back wins earlier in May and nearly found the perfect start inside the opening minute. Following a mistake from Palts, the ball fell kindly for Tristan Koskor just a few metres from goal, but the striker failed to convert as Koen Oostenbrink recovered brilliantly on the line to clear the danger himself.
The opening stages remained relatively balanced, with both sides trying to unlock each other either through quick transitions or patient build-up play. United’s first major opportunity arrived in the 14th minute after a collision between Tammeka defender Kangaslahti and goalkeeper Kristen Lapa following a long ball forward, but Chisala could not take advantage as Lapa recovered to make the save.
Tammeka eventually broke through in the 19th minute from a set piece. After a corner kick was only partially cleared by United goalkeeper Georg Lagus, the loose ball dropped perfectly for Gambian midfielder Hydara, who fired home his first-ever Premium Liiga goal to make it 1-0.
United responded well and nearly equalised moments later when a long throw from Mathias Palts caused chaos inside the box, eventually ending with the ball crashing against the Tammeka crossbar after a touch from defender Pedro Manoel.
The equaliser finally arrived in the 30th minute. Vain delivered a dangerous ball into the penalty area, Oostenbrink flicked it on, and Mathias Palts was left completely unmarked six metres from goal to calmly finish and make it 1-1.
Although the first half ended level, Tammeka arguably created the better chances and could easily have entered halftime ahead after Koskor missed another promising opportunity from close range.
The second half continued in a similar fashion, with both teams battling intensely in midfield. However, it was Tammeka who regained the lead in the 53rd minute through an excellent team move. Patrick Veelma started the attack himself by carrying the ball through midfield before releasing Uggeri down the right flank. After receiving the return pass, Veelma curled an effort towards goal which took a slight touch off Palts before finding the net for 2-1.
United pushed for another equaliser and came close several times, most notably in the 74th minute when Chisala found space in the centre of the box, but his effort was saved by Lapa with his legs.
That miss proved costly. Four minutes later Tammeka effectively sealed the match with a beautifully constructed attacking move. Epton found Ignatius inside the penalty area, and instead of shooting himself, Ignatius intelligently squared the ball to Tristan Koskor near the penalty spot. The experienced striker smashed his finish under the crossbar to make it 3-1 and finally put the game beyond doubt.
United continued to search for a late response, but Tammeka comfortably controlled the closing stages to secure another deserved three points.
The victory extends Tammeka’s winning streak to three consecutive Premium Liiga matches for the first time in six years, continuing a perfect month of May for the Tartu club.
