Toplyga leaders FK Sūduva have confirmed that vice-captain and defender Markas Beneta will miss the remainder of the 2026 season due to injury.

The 32-year-old centre-back, currently in his second spell with the Marijampolė club after previously representing Sūduva until 2022, made 13 Toplyga appearances this season. Beneta had already missed several weeks through injury after the beginning of May before returning to action last week, playing the entire second half as a substitute in Sūduva’s victory over FK Panevežys.

However, the experienced defender was absent from the squad for Sunday’s goalless draw against FK TransINVEST, and the club has now confirmed that he has undergone surgery and will begin his rehabilitation, ruling him out for the rest of the campaign.

Beneta has earned 26 caps for the Lithuanian national team and has enjoyed a distinguished domestic career, representing FK Panevėžys, both Žalgiris clubs from Vilnius and Kaunas, FK Atlantas and FK Sūduva. Abroad, he has also played for JK Narva Trans in Estonia and Polish side Zaglebie Sosnowiec.
