Riga Mariners have appointed Italian coach Stefano Greco as their new head coach following the departure of Sergejs Kožans earlier this week.
Greco, 41, returns to Latvian club football having previously worked in the youth set-ups at Metta and Valmiera. In 2023 he coached Metta’s U16 side and won the Baltic Cup, before moving into Valmiera’s system in 2024 to lead the club’s reserve team in the Nākotnes līga.
Valmiera’s second team finished sixth in a 14-team league under Greco. He then spent the second half of last year in the Cambodian Premier League as an assistant coach at Svay Rieng.
Riga Mariners said Greco had been entrusted with leading the team “to continue its development and progression towards higher sporting goals”.
The club’s next match is on Sunday in Mežaparks, where they face Riga-2 in a 13:00 kick-off.
