Džiugas Telšiai delivered a commanding performance in the 11th round of the Toplyga, defeating FC Hegelmann 3-0 at home to solidify their position in second place. The standout performer was English forward Ronald Sobowale, who netted twice in an impressive display.

The hosts made a dream start, opening the scoring in just the 5th minute. A precise cross from Jakub Wawszczyk found Sobowale in the box, and the striker made no mistake, heading home his fourth goal of the season. Moments later, Džiugas nearly doubled their lead, but Wawszczyk’s effort from distance drifted just wide.

After the early setback, Hegelmann gradually grew into the game and managed to push forward into dangerous areas. However, despite their attacking presence, they failed to truly test goalkeeper Marius Paukštė, who remained largely untroubled throughout the match.

Džiugas extended their advantage late in the first half through a moment of brilliance. Denis Ževžikovas unleashed a stunning long-range strike that caught goalkeeper Vincentas Šarkauskas off guard, giving the home side a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Hegelmann attempted to respond after the break, earning a total of eight corner kicks over the course of the match, six of them in the second half. Yet their efforts lacked cutting edge, as they failed to register a single shot on target.

Instead, it was Džiugas who struck again to seal the result. In the 67th minute, Sobowale produced a superb solo effort – picking up the ball in his own half, beating a defender, and driving forward with determination before calmly finishing past Šarkauskas to make it 3-0 and secure his brace.

The victory brings Džiugas closer to league leaders FK Kauno Žalgiris, who dropped points earlier in the day, reducing the gap to six points. Meanwhile, Hegelmann’s struggles continue, as they extend their winless run to four matches.

Attention now turns to a crucial clash in the next round, where Džiugas will face leaders Kauno Žalgiris away at the Darius and Girėnas Stadium. Hegelmann, on the other hand, will look to bounce back when they host Panevežys.
