FK Grobiņa have continued strengthening their squad following the opening of the Latvian summer transfer window by registering experienced Latvian goalkeeper Roberts Ozols.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper returns to the Tonybet Virslīga after spending the first half of the year with Albanian side FK Bylis. Ozols made 15 appearances during the second half of the season, keeping three clean sheets, although he was unable to prevent the club from being relegated from the Albanian top flight.

A three-time Latvian champion with Riga FC, Ozols returns to Latvia as one of the most experienced goalkeepers in the league. Over spells with Riga FC, FK Auda, Daugava Rīga and Spartaks Jūrmala, he has made 159 Virslīga appearances, keeping 66 clean sheets.

Last season Ozols helped FK Auda lift the Latvian Cup, adding a second domestic cup triumph to the one he previously won with Riga FC.

The goalkeeper also brings valuable international experience, having earned 19 caps for the Latvian national team. Besides his recent spell in Albania, Ozols also played abroad in 2024 with Uzbek club Qizilqum.

Grobiņa have largely rotated between Vjačeslavs Kudrjavcevs and Ņikita Pinčuks in goal during the first half of the campaign, with Kudrjavcevs starting 15 of the club’s 19 league matches. Ozols is expected to arrive as the club’s new first-choice goalkeeper as Grobiņa look to climb away from ninth place in the Virslīga standings.

Ozols becomes Grobiņa’s third registered addition of the summer transfer window. Earlier, the club signed, FK Liepāja’s all-time leading goalscorer, Brazilian forward Dodo, while Belgian attacking midfielder Milan Corryn was also registered earlier today.
