Riga FC have added Portuguese winger Samuel Pedro to their UEFA Conference League squad ahead of the play-off tie against KI Klaksvik from the Faroe Islands.
The 25-year-old, who has Angolan roots, has been registered in place of Costa Rica international Orlando Galo. The club said that Galo has been dealing with health issues and was an unused substitute in the previous round’s second leg in Hungary against Gyor, after Riga won 1-0 at home and drew 1-1 away.
Samuel Pedro came through the ranks in Portugal, making his Primeira Liga debut with Boavista before joining Benfica’s set-up. He later played for Olimpija Ljubljana, featuring in European competition, and then moved to Norway’s second tier with Jerv, where he scored 14 goals in 24 matches despite the club’s relegation.
He joined Riga FC sister-club Dubai United at the start of 2023 and was among the leading scorers as the club finished second and secured promotion to the top flight. Dubai United are due to make their first appearance in the UAE’s top division on Sunday.
Riga FC also confirmed that another recent signing – Nigerian left-back Nor Maviram – has not been included in the European list for now, though changes can still be made up to Thursday’s match.
