Tonybet Virslīga Matchday 15 opened with Riga FC comfortably defeating SK Super Nova 3-0 at Skonto Stadium, with all three goals coming already in the first half.
Riga head coach Adrian Gula handed goalkeeper Frenks Orols his second consecutive start between the posts, while Tunisian winger Raki Aouani returned to the matchday squad for the first time since early April.
The home side gradually took control after a relatively balanced opening phase and broke the deadlock in the 29th minute through Brazilian winger Caio Ferreira. After receiving the ball outside the box from Meissa Diop, Ferreira unleashed a superb left-footed strike into the top corner to make it 1-0.
Riga doubled their advantage eight minutes later. On a counter-attack Senegalese striker Muhammed Badamosi did well to hold up the ball inside the area before setting up Diop, who calmly finished from close range for 2-0.
Just before halftime the hosts added a third. This time Salah-Eddine Oulad delivered a dangerous cross into the box, where Badamosi rose highest and powered a header into the top corner to effectively seal the match before the break.
Super Nova attempted to respond after halftime and created several dangerous moments. Bamba struck the post from a difficult angle in the 54th minute, while Orols was forced into a number of quality saves, including denying long-range efforts from Facundo Garcia and a header from Mārcis Ošs.
Riga continued rotating the squad throughout the second half, giving minutes to players such as Reginaldo Ramires, Juan Christian and Karl Wassom, while Aouani made his long-awaited return in the closing minutes.
Thanks to the victory, Riga FC move back within one point of league leaders RFS, while Super Nova remain fourth in the table with 20 points.
Before the Baltic Cup break, Riga will host FK Grobiņa, while Super Nova face another difficult test against RFS.
