Riga FC maintained their early-season momentum in the Tonybet Virslīga with a 3-1 away win over Daugavpils, but the champions’ afternoon was overshadowed by an injury to Renārs Varslavāns, who was taken from the pitch by ambulance in the second half.

Riga took the lead inside the opening minutes when a low delivery across goal caused immediate problems in the Daugavpils box. The ball ended up over the line after a mix-up involving goalkeeper Jānis Beks and defender Papa Gningue, with the goal ultimately recorded as an own goal by Gningue.

The visitors controlled long spells of the first half and were handed a further opening when Reginaldo Ramires intercepted a loose pass, only to drag his effort wide from a promising position.

Riga doubled their advantage soon after the restart through Salah Oulad, who struck a direct free-kick from distance past Beks. Daugavpils responded on 66 minutes as Joel Yakubu ran on to Ervīns Piņaskins’ pass and finished to reduce the deficit.

A few minutes later Varslavāns went down with a leg injury and required lengthy treatment before being helped off by medical staff and into an ambulance.

Oulad Salah wrapped up the points in stoppage time, reacting quickest to a rebound after Muhammed Badamosi’s headed attempt.

With this win Riga FC with 26 points after 11 games ar second in the league table, just two points behind leaders RFS, while one point behind them is FK Auda, who will play against Riga FC in the next round matchup on Tuesday.
