Paide will be without Modou Sohna for the rest of the Premium liiga season after the forward underwent surgery on a knee meniscus. The 25-year-old Gambian is expected to return to training in time for the start of pre-season preparations for the new campaign, club chief executive Jaanus Pruuli confirmed to Soccernet.

Sohna last played for Paide before the international break and missed Saturday’s league match against FCI Levadia. He has scored six goals and provided five assists in 25 league appearances this season. Only Henri Anier, with 10 goals, has scored more for Paide, but his season has also ended because of a muscle injury.

Paide have further injury concerns, with Gerdo Juhkam and Williams Lins already sidelined by long-term problems. Edgar Turi, Henrik Ojamaa and Kristofer Käit were also absent against Levadia and are doubts for the next round. Daniel Cabral and Juan Palacios have scored five and four league goals respectively, while Daniel Luts has provided three assists.

With six rounds remaining, Paide sit third, four points behind second-placed FC Flora and one ahead of Nõmme Kalju. They host Tartu Tammeka on Wednesday, 14 October, then welcome bottom side Narva Trans on Sunday. Their remaining fixtures include home games against Kalju and Flora, and away matches against Kuressaare and Pärnu Vaprus.

A top-three finish would secure Paide a place in European competition. They were eliminated from the Estonian Cup by Levadia in August, so finishing fourth would leave their European hopes dependent on the cup being won by a team that has already qualified through the league.
