Premium Liiga Matchday 14 ended with another frustrating result for Paide Linnameeskond, who were held to a 1-1 home draw by FC Kuressaare and have now failed to win any of their last four league matches.
The result continues Paide’s slide away from the top three, with the clubs above them gradually increasing the gap round by round. Paide entered the match as heavy favourites despite their recent problems, but the first half already showed why their season has become so inconsistent. The home side started brightly, with Henri Anier testing goalkeeper Karl-Romet Nõmm early and Modou Pa Sohna looking dangerous whenever he carried the ball forward.
That pressure paid off in the 16th minute. Sohna cut in from the right and fired from outside the penalty area, with the ball taking a deflection before beating Nõmm and ending up in the net. It gave Paide an early 1-0 lead and looked like the kind of moment that could settle nerves after a difficult run.
But instead of taking control, Paide allowed Kuressaare to grow into the game. The visitors were well organised, direct when needed and increasingly dangerous from set pieces. Kuressaare produced four corners in the first half alone and created several promising situations through Deivid Andreas and Andero Kivi.
Paide still had moments of their own, including an Anier finish ruled out for a clear offside, but the match became much more balanced than the home side would have wanted. By halftime, the statistics reflected that: possession was only slightly in Paide’s favour, while Kuressaare had already created enough to suggest the game was far from over.
The second half continued in a similar direction. Paide made changes, but Kuressaare remained aggressive and purposeful. Kivi threatened on the counter, while Andreas had one of the visitors’ best chances in the 58th minute when he found space inside the box, only for Paide goalkeeper Ebrima Jarju to make an important save.
The equaliser finally arrived in the 78th minute. Jürisoo produced excellent work before delivering the ball across goal, where Kivi was left with a simple finish from close range to make it 1-1. Only after conceding did Paide truly wake up again.
The home side pushed hard in the final minutes and had several golden chances to regain the lead. Anier saw an effort blocked in front of goal, while Andrade later failed to direct a close-range header on target from a corner. But by then it was too late.
Kuressaare held on for a valuable draw, while Paide were left to reflect on another match where they failed to build on a lead and allowed control to slip away.
For Paide, the concern is growing. Their winless league run has now stretched to four matches, and the gap to the top three is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
