More than 3,000 children took part in 3v3 school football festivals held across Latvia during UEFA Grassroots Week, with events staged in all six of the country’s football regions.

Schools, sports schools and pre-school education centres joined activities hosted both on school grounds and at football facilities. The 3v3 format gave children more chances to get on the ball, while the festivals aimed to introduce young people to football and encourage regular physical activity. The programme also linked with European Sports Week and its #BeActive campaign.

As part of the initiative, the Latvian Football Federation held two-day grassroots leader courses in Riga on 28 and 29 September. Twenty teachers from the FIFA Football for Schools programme took part, developing skills to organise safe, inclusive football activities for children.
