Mindaugas Čepas has been appointed head coach of Lithuania’s men’s national team, the Lithuanian Football Federation confirmed on Wednesday. His first matches will come in November, when Lithuania play a friendly before hosting Liechtenstein on 16 November in their final Nations League fixture of the cycle.

Čepas has coached Lithuania’s under-19 side since early 2025. Lukas Artimavičius, previously his assistant, will take charge of the team for November’s UEFA European Under-19 Championship elite qualifying round in Portugal.

Federation president Edgaras Stankevičius said Čepas’s work with youth teams and the style of play they produced had influenced the appointment. “We believe choosing Mindaugas is the right step at this moment,” he said, adding that he hoped the senior side would receive strong support from supporters in November.

Čepas described the role as an exceptional opportunity and thanked the federation for its confidence. “There is a lot of work ahead, but we have a talented group of players. We will aim to give supporters positive emotions and a positive result,” he said.

Before joining the under-19 team, Čepas coached FA Šiauliai, Riteriai, Kauno Žalgiris, Jonava, Utenis and Banga, and had a brief spell in charge of Žalgiris.
