FK Žalgiris have strengthened their squad with the signing of promising Lithuanian forward Jonas Usavičius, who has officially joined the club this week.
The 20-year-old attacker arrives from fellow Vilnius side FK Riteriai, where he spent the past season and a half competing in Lithuania’s top flight. Earlier this year, Usavičius also made his debut for the Lithuania Under-21 national team.
“Jonas is a young player who learned the fundamentals of football in Vilnius and has already gained valuable experience in senior football,” said Žalgiris Sporting Director Giedrius Klevinskas. “He is capable of playing in several attacking positions and stands out for his energy, courage, and willingness to take initiative on the pitch. We believe he has significant room for development, and we expect the competitive environment within our club to help him continue his progress.”
A graduate of the Riteriai Football Academy, Usavičius began his senior career with the club’s B team in Lithuania’s second division in 2022. In 2024, he signed his first professional contract and featured for Riteriai’s first team in the same competition, scoring 10 goals to help secure promotion to the country’s top division.
Since then, Usavičius has made 43 appearances in the A Lyga, playing 28 matches last season and adding another 15 this year. He also scored the decisive goal in last season’s promotion play-off against FK Neptūnas Klaipėda, helping Riteriai secure their place in the top flight.
On the international stage, Usavičius has represented Lithuania at several youth levels and is now a member of the national Under-21 team. In June, he scored against Estonia in the Baltic Youth Cup, helping Lithuania lift the trophy alongside fellow Žalgiris players Martynas Šetkus and Patrikas Matyžonok.
The move marks another important step in the young forward’s career as he looks to continue his development with the reigning Lithuanian champions.
