Lilander’s stoppage-time winner gives Paide victory over Tammeka
Paide Linnameeskond secured a dramatic 2-1 home victory over Tartu Tammeka in the Estonian Premium Liiga, with Michael Lilander scoring a stoppage-time winner against ten-man visitors who had dominated large periods of the contest. Moussa Sambe had earlier cancelled out Dawda Darboe’s opener, but his dismissal proved costly as Tammeka missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on the league’s top four.

Paide entered the match in third place with 51 points, level with fourth-placed Nõmme Kalju, while Tammeka sat fifth with 47 points. Victory for the visitors would have reduced the gap to both sides to just one point.
Despite playing away from home, Tammeka made the more promising start and thought they had taken an early lead when Sambe finished confidently into the bottom corner in the sixth minute. However, the goal was disallowed for offside.
The visitors continued to look the more dangerous side, combining confidently in possession and regularly finding space around Paide’s penalty area. The hosts struggled to establish their attacking rhythm, although Daniel Luts threatened with a curling effort that went narrowly wide.
Muhammed Hydara also tested Paide goalkeeper Marko Meerits from distance, while Juan Palacios provided much of the home side’s attacking threat with several individual runs into the penalty area.
Tammeka suffered another frustrating moment in the 38th minute when Hydara found the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Having twice put the ball into the net without being rewarded, the visitors were soon punished at the other end.
In the 41st minute, Daniel Cabral delivered a corner into the penalty area, where Dawda Darboe rose to direct a header into the bottom corner. The goal, his second of the Premium Liiga season, gave Paide a 1-0 advantage despite their largely unconvincing first-half performance.
However, Tammeka needed just two minutes to respond. Romet Silov delivered an excellent pass into the feet of Sambe, who produced a superb turn to escape Nikita Baranov before unleashing a powerful finish into the net. This time there was no offside flag, and the visitors deservedly restored parity at 1-1 shortly before half-time.
The second half began with both teams searching for the lead. Cabral sent a free-kick wide for Paide, while Hydara and Pedro Lisboa failed to hit the target with attempts at the opposite end.
Paide gradually began creating better opportunities, but Tammeka goalkeeper Kristen Lapa produced several important interventions. He denied Palacios from a tight angle before making an excellent save to prevent Martin Miller from putting the hosts ahead.
The home side introduced substitute Piht in place of Darboe in the 63rd minute, and the forward soon found himself with an excellent opportunity from close range. However, he failed to hit the target, wasting one of Paide’s clearest chances of the second half.
The contest took a decisive turn when Sambe became involved in an altercation with Palacios. After the Paide winger brought him down, Sambe reacted by directing a kicking motion towards his opponent. Already on a yellow card, the striker received his second booking and was sent off, leaving Tammeka with ten players.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, the visitors came agonisingly close to taking the lead in stoppage time when Lisboa struck the crossbar from close range.
Paide immediately capitalised on that reprieve. Substitute Alekssandr Šurogin produced a clever backheel inside the penalty area to find Lilander, who drove a powerful effort inside the near post to secure all three points for the hosts.
The 2-1 victory moves Paide three points clear of Nõmme Kalju in the battle for European qualification, although Kalju have played one game fewer.
Elsewhere in the Premium Liiga, Narva Trans suffered another damaging setback in their battle against relegation, losing 0-1 at home to FC Kuressaare. Despite taking the initiative in the second half, Trans struggled to create clear-cut opportunities and rarely troubled goalkeeper Karl-Romet Nõmm.
Aleksander Švedovski eventually settled the contest with a powerful long-range strike in the closing minutes, leaving Narva rooted to the bottom of the standings. With Kuressaare now beyond their reach, Trans’ remaining hope of avoiding automatic relegation rests on catching Nõmme United and securing a place in the relegation play-offs.
