Latvia U21 scored twice away from home but were beaten 4-2 by Greece in Livadeia, ending their hopes of challenging Georgia for fourth place in their European Championship qualifying group. Virslīga players Ivans Patrikejevs and Valerijs Lizunovs scored Latvia’s first goals of the campaign.

Greece took the lead in the fifth minute when Christos Almyras finished a quick attack, then doubled their advantage through Konstantinos Kostoulas after a corner. Patrikejevs pulled one back in the 27th minute, finishing after Ralfs Kragliks’ diagonal pass and Mārtiņš Lormanis’ ball into the area. Almyras restored the two-goal cushion before half-time.

Kostoulas headed in his second of the match in the 53rd minute after Greece kept an attack alive from a corner. Latvia created chances in the second half, and Lizunovs scored in stoppage time, but the visitors could not close the gap further.

Latvia had more attempts overall, 16 to 15, and more shots on target, 9 to 8. The defeat leaves them fifth in Group F, with a home match against Malta on Tuesday to finish their qualifying campaign. Latvia lost 1-0 to Greece in the reverse fixture.
