Nõmme Kalju were left frustrated after conceding a late equaliser as Paide Linnameeskond fought back to earn a 1-1 draw in their Premium Liiga round 19 clash.

Played in difficult conditions with heavy rain throughout much of the afternoon, the opening half offered few clear-cut chances despite both sides showing attacking intent. Kalju came closest inside the opening five minutes when Nikita Ivanov’s dangerous corner curled through a crowd of players before striking the far post. Soon after, Esono Eyang capitalised on a defensive mistake and drove towards goal, only for his effort to be blocked behind for a corner.

Paide gradually settled into the contest and began creating opportunities of their own. Abdourahman Badamosi was denied by an excellent last-ditch challenge from Maksim Podholjuzin, while Modou Pa Sohna fired narrowly wide from the edge of the area. Neither goalkeeper was seriously tested during the first half, although Kalju almost snatched the lead on the stroke of half-time when Ivanov’s free-kick forced Ebrima Jarju into a save.

The visitors emerged stronger after the interval. Henri Perk was called into action to deny Hõim before Cabral also tested the Kalju goalkeeper with a powerful effort from distance. Despite Paide’s improved spell, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock.

Introduced only minutes earlier, substitute Tiago Baptista made an immediate impact in the 66th minute. After excellent play down the right from Roko Vukušic, the Portuguese attacker controlled the ball brilliantly, cut inside and calmly placed a low finish into the far corner to give Kalju a 1-0 advantage.

The goal transformed the game. Baptista nearly doubled the lead moments later, first forcing Jarju into a comfortable save before robbing a defender inside the penalty area and curling an effort narrowly over the crossbar. Kalju also had a second goal ruled out for offside when Jabir finished after breaking beyond the defensive line.

With time running out, Paide increased the pressure. Henri Anier, who had come off the bench midway through the second half, injected fresh energy into the visitors’ attack and was heavily involved in the equaliser.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 88th minute. Daniel Luts found Anier inside the penalty area, and although his initial effort was blocked before Henri Perk saved his second attempt, the rebound fell kindly for Piht, who reacted quickest to tap home from close range and level the score at 1-1.

Both teams searched for a winner in stoppage time. Kalju came closest when Bogdan Vaštšuk struck the post after a fortunate deflection, while at the opposite end Michael Lilander almost completed the turnaround with a powerful effort that flew just over the crossbar.

Neither side could find a decisive second goal, and the points were shared for the second consecutive meeting between the clubs this season.

The draw leaves the two teams still separated by just two points in the Premium Liiga standings. Kalju remain second on 31 points, while Paide stay fourth with 29, with Flora sitting between them on 30 points.
