Kauno Žalgiris sign Belgian defender Anton Tanghe for 2027

Kauno Žalgiris have begun building their squad for the 2027 season by agreeing a deal with Belgian defender Anton Tanghe.

The 27-year-old, a former Belgium youth international, completed a medical in Lithuania on Monday and signed for the club on Tuesday. He is due to join training on Wednesday, but cannot play for the Lithuanian champions during the 2026 season. Tanghe became a free agent in early September, after the transfer window had closed, and is eligible to make his debut in 2027.

“Next season will be exceptionally long, which will shorten the off-season when squad building usually takes place,” said sporting director Darius Šinkūnas. “That is why we are already shaping the team for the coming season and looking for players. Anton cannot play now, but joining the squad straight away will help him settle in and get to know the league and Lithuanian football.”

Tanghe came through Club Brugge’s youth system before moving to Oostende, where he spent four years. He then joined Zulte Waregem, his most recent club. He captained both sides during his time in Belgium.
