Karolis Skinkys has returned to Sūduva as the club’s director, six years after leaving Marijampole for a role abroad.
The 36-year-old departed in mid-March 2020 to join Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters as sporting director and had been under contract until 2028. Sūduva said he opted to come back to Lithuania amid organisational problems in the Indian league and uncertainty over the competition’s future.
Skinkys replaces Dovydas Lastauskas, who has been offered a different post within the club. Sūduva president Mantas Agentas said the appointment would strengthen the organisation. “It’s great that a person is returning who helped the team become Lithuanian champions three times,” Agentas said. “Karolis has built up a lot of experience and completed various top-level football studies. We believe he will add more professionalism and help us pursue long-term goals.”
Skinkys said he was eager to begin work back in his hometown. “I’m returning with great respect for the club, the city and the people who are part of Sūduva,” he said. “I believe in the club’s potential and I want to contribute to building a new strong chapter. There is a lot of work ahead, but I’m motivated, prepared, and I believe together we can pursue ambitious targets. See you at the stadium.”
In the Toplyga, Sūduva have 26 points after 17 matches and sit third. Their next fixture is away to Panevežys on 29 June, before a home game against TransINVEST on 6 July.
