Harju JK Laagri strengthened their hold on fourth place in the Premium Liiga table with a narrow 1-0 home victory over Tartu JK Tammeka in Matchday 9.

The match opened the final round of the first league cycle, with Harju looking to move closer to the top three, while Tammeka arrived in Laagri searching for a much-needed result after a difficult recent run.

Harju started brightly and earned an early corner, with Kaspar Laur heading wide at the back post. Tammeka slowly grew into the game and created the best chance of the opening spell in the 14th minute, when Kauan Pereira found Tristan Koskor near the six-yard box, but Harju goalkeeper Jan Vainula reacted well with a strong foot save.

After a relatively quiet first half-hour, the game suddenly opened up. Both teams traded dangerous attacks, but the breakthrough came in the 33rd minute. After Tammeka goalkeeper Kristen Lapa produced a superb save to deny Karel Eerme, the ball dropped near the penalty spot, where Andres Järve struck it brilliantly into the net to give Harju a 1-0 lead.

Harju could have added a second before halftime, especially when Ramol Sillamaa broke through behind the defence, but instead of shooting, he looked for a pass and the chance disappeared.

Tammeka pushed harder after the break and created pressure through corners, long throws and set pieces. Their best chance came in the 64th minute, when Chilem Williams Ignatius fired from close range after a scramble in the box, but Daniil Rudenko made a crucial block on the line to keep Harju ahead.

The visitors continued to search for an equaliser, with Ignatius and Pedro Manoel both involved in dangerous moments, while Harju were forced to defend deep for long spells. Vainula was also called into action late on, including after a sharp long-range effort from Lisboa.

Despite the pressure, Harju held firm and secured all three points thanks to Järve’s first-half strike.

The win takes Harju to 16 points and guarantees fourth place regardless of the other Matchday 9 results. Tammeka, meanwhile, are now winless in five matches and finish the first round with only seven points.
