Lithuanian striker Eligijus Jankauskas continued his outstanding start to the Israeli second-tier season on Monday evening, scoring twice as Hapoel Ironi Rishon claimed a 2-1 away victory over Kiryat Gat to maintain their perfect record after two rounds.

The 28-year-old once again started in the starting XI after opening his account for the season in last week’s 2-0 home victory over Hapoel Kfar Saba, where he netted the decisive goal in the 55th minute.

This time, Jankauskas needed just five minutes to make his mark. The Lithuanian forward gave the visitors an early lead, finding the net to continue his excellent scoring form.

He doubled both his own tally and his side’s advantage in the 58th minute, scoring his second goal of the evening and his third in just two league matches to put Hapoel Ironi Rishon firmly in control at 2-0.

Kiryat Gat managed to pull one goal back later in the match, but the hosts were unable to complete a comeback as Hapoel Ironi Rishon held on to secure their second consecutive victory to begin the campaign.

Jankauskas played 83 minutes before being substituted and also picked up a yellow card shortly before half-time.

With six points from their opening two matches, Hapoel Ironi Rishon will now look to extend their perfect start on Sunday when they host MS Kafr Qasim.
