Latvian forward Dāvis Ikaunieks has wasted no time finding a new club after leaving Lithuanian champions Kauno Žalgiris. Just hours after the Kaunas club announced the mutual termination of his contract, FA Šiauliai confirmed that the experienced forward has returned to the club where he enjoyed the most prolific season of his career.
The 32-year-old began the 2026 campaign with reigning Toplyga champions Kauno Žalgiris, scoring four goals in 18 league appearances. Earlier on Friday, the club announced that both parties had agreed to part ways, bringing his spell in Kaunas to an end after just half a season.
By Friday evening, however, Šiauliai had officially unveiled Ikaunieks as their newest signing. The Latvian returns to a club where he flourished in 2024, finishing as one of the league’s standout performers. That season he scored 18 goals in 34 Toplyga matches, ending the campaign as the league’s second-highest goalscorer and playing a key role in Šiauliai’s success.
Supporters will not have to wait long to see him back in the yellow and black shirt. Ikaunieks is expected to make his second debut on 29 June, when FA Šiauliai host TransINVEST at Šiauliai City Stadium. He will once again wear the No. 19 shirt.
“I am very happy to be back in Šiauliai,” Ikaunieks said after completing the move. “I will give everything I have and do my best to help the team achieve victories, while also using my experience to help the younger players develop. I invite all our supporters to back us during the remainder of the season. I believe that together we can win as many matches as possible and bring the cup to Šiauliai.”
The striker has a wealth of experience. The 47-cap Latvian international has previously played in the Czech Republic, while after his successful spell at Šiauliai he spent last season in the Singapore Premier League before returning to Lithuania with Kauno Žalgiris at the start of this year.
In his homeland, Ikaunieks has represented Liepājas Metalurgs, FK Liepāja and RFS.
