Tonybet Virslīga Matchday 1 continued today in Jelgava, where the home side secured a 2-1 victory over FK Tukums 2000, with Czech midfielder Filip Hašek scoring both goals for the hosts.
Jelgava opened the scoring in the 19th minute after a well-worked attacking move. David Holoubek found his compatriot Hašek, who turned past his defender before firing a shot from a tight angle into the bottom corner past goalkeeper Ivans Baturins.
Tukums responded quickly. A cross from the right by Brazilian winger Leoni found Ruslans Deružinskis, and the 21-year-old Latvian forward, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Tukums, equalised to make it 1-1.
Both teams created good chances early in the second half, but goalkeepers Adam Dvorak for Jelgava and Ivans Baturins for Tukums kept their sides level with several important saves.
The decisive moment came when Tukums lost possession in midfield, allowing Jelgava to launch a quick attack. Jegors Novikovs picked out Hašek, who calmly finished to score his second goal of the match and restore the lead for the home side.
Hašek nearly completed a hat-trick in stoppage time when his shot beat Baturins, but the ball crashed off the crossbar, leaving the final score at 2-1 in Jelgava’s favour.
