Latvia international striker Vladislavs Gutkovskis will remain at Arka Gdynia for at least another two seasons after the Polish club confirmed that both parties have agreed a new contract.

The 31-year-old returned to the Polish Ekstraklasa during the winter transfer window after two injury-disrupted seasons in South Korea, signing for Arka Gdynia. He went on to make 16 league appearances, scoring four goals, but was unable to prevent the club from being relegated from Poland’s top flight.

Although Gutkovskis still had one year remaining on his previous contract, it included a clause that automatically terminated the agreement in the event of relegation. The Latvian forward had previously revealed that his departure from the club was not certain, as negotiations could still happen for him staying. Those talks have now been successfully concluded, with Arka officially announcing a new two-year contract.

Arka Gdynia will compete in Poland’s second tier this season, marking Gutkovskis’ return to the division for the first time since the 2019/20 campaign, when he represented Bruk-Bet Termalica.

The upcoming campaign will be Gutkovskis’ ninth season in Polish football. In addition to spells with Bruk-Bet Termalica and Arka Gdynia, the most successful period of his career came at Rakow Czzstochowa, where he spent three seasons, winning the Polish Ekstraklasa once and lifting the Polish Cup and Polish Super Cup on two occasions each. Between his spells in Poland, the Latvian international spent two injury-hit seasons with South Korean side Daejeon Hana Citizen.

Across his eight and a half seasons in Poland, Gutkovskis has made 247 appearances in all competitions, scoring 71 goals.
