Estonian internationals Kevor Palumets and Markus Poom faced off in the Slovak top flight on Saturday as Košice and Trenčin played out an entertaining 3-3 draw. Elsewhere, Estonian players were also in action in the Czech Republic and Norway.
Of the four Estonians across the two clubs, only Palumets and Poom were included in the matchday squads. Palumets started for Košice, while Poom was in the starting XI for Trencin. Kristo Hussar and Dmitri Jepihhin were both absent from the visitors’ squad.
Košice looked to be in complete control after building a two-goal lead in the first half. However, Trenčín responded with three unanswered goals after the break to turn the match around. The hosts had the final say, though, scoring a dramatic equaliser in the 90th minute to rescue a 3-3 draw.
Palumets played 72 minutes before being substituted, while Poom completed the full match.
Košice have now opened the Slovak league season with two high-scoring draws, having drawn 4-4 with Žilina last weekend. They host Dunajska Streda next Sunday, while Trenčin welcome defending champions Slovan Bratislava a day earlier.
In the Czech top division, Vlasij Sinjavskij and Banik Ostrava suffered a heavy 4-0 home defeat to Slavia Prague.
The visitors effectively settled the contest in the opening half, scoring three times before the break. Sinjavskij started the match and played 63 minutes before being substituted.
Ostrava will look to bounce back next Sunday away to Hradec Kralove.
In Norway, Markus Soomets remained on the bench for a third consecutive league match as IK Start fell to a 3-0 home defeat against Viking.
The 26-year-old midfielder has made 11 league appearances this season but has not featured in Start’s last three matches.
Start remain bottom of the Norwegian top-flight table with 10 points from 16 matches. Their next fixture comes next Saturday at home against Fredrikstad.
