Latvia Under-19 head coach Viktors Dobrecovs has named a 20-man squad for this month’s European Championship qualifying elite round in Czechia.
Latvia will begin the mini-tournament against the hosts on 25 March, then face Denmark on 28 March and Belgium on 31 March. Only the group winners will progress to the eight-team finals, which will be held in Wales this summer.
The squad includes players from nine domestic clubs as well as teams in Scotland, Croatia, Italy, England and Finland. Seventeen of the 20 selected players were also involved in the first qualifying round.
Dobrecovs’ side will train in Riga on Sunday and Monday before travelling to Czechia on Tuesday morning. In February, Latvia played two friendlies in Croatia, drawing 0-0 with Türkiye and losing 4-2 to the hosts.
In the first qualifying round last November, Latvia finished ahead of hosts Lithuania and Scotland after a 2-1 win over Lithuania and a 2-2 draw with Scotland, with their only defeat a 7-0 loss to England. This will be the fourth successive qualifying cycle in which Latvia’s Under-19 side have reached the elite round.
The selected squad is: goalkeepers Krists Pļaviņš and Rodrigo Vītols; defenders Lenards Bērziņš, Gustavs Leitāns, Matīss Siliņš, Gundars Smilškalns, Aleksandrs Molotkovs and Krišjānis Rupeiks; midfielders Henrijs Gulbis, Matīss Caune, Rūdolfs Kļavinskis, Kristaps Mosāns, Ratmirs Trifonovs, Ivans Struks, Helvijs Joksts and Maksims Kopilovs; forwards Emīls Sprukts, Markuss Spāde, Roberts Kukulis and Nils Henrijs Veinbergs.
