BFC Daugavpils recorded their tenth victory of the Tonybet Virslīga season after defeating Tukums 2000 2-0 at home, ending a run of two consecutive 1-1 draws between the sides. Goals from Joel Yakubu and Raivis Skrebels secured all three points for the hosts.

Daugavpils head coach Kirill Kurbatov kept faith with the same starting eleven that defeated Jelgava 2-1 in the previous round, while Tukums made just one change following their victory over Liepāja, with Rūdolfs Meļķis returning to the starting line-up in place of Dāvis Valmiers.

The home side controlled possession throughout the opening half but struggled to turn that dominance into clear-cut opportunities. Abdoul Traore fired narrowly wide inside the opening five minutes before Joel Yakubu had an effort blocked from distance.

Raivis Skrebels also tried his luck from outside the penalty area, sending his strike over the crossbar, while Traore went close again midway through the half after being picked out inside the area.

The best chance before the break arrived in the 38th minute when Yakubu delivered an excellent cross into the six-yard box, but Traore headed wide from close range.

Tukums, meanwhile, barely threatened during the first half and failed to register a single shot until the opening minutes after the restart.

Daugavpils almost made the perfect start to the second half when Ziad Ouled-Haj-M’Hand tested Sergejs Vilkovs from distance, before Yakubu twice saw efforts blocked inside the penalty area.

The visitors finally came to life just after the hour mark and should have taken the lead. Bogdans Samoilovs produced a clever backheel pass to release Kaspars Anmanis, whose powerful strike was brilliantly saved by Jānis Beks. The rebound fell kindly for Leoni Gastaldelo, but the Daugavpils goalkeeper reacted quickly to deny the Brazilian from close range as well.

Having survived that scare, the hosts struck four minutes later. Substitute Ervīns Piņaskins made an immediate impact after replacing William Mukwelle, driving into the penalty area before finding Yakubu, who turned sharply through a crowded box and calmly slotted into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Tukums pushed hard for an equaliser during the closing stages. Kaspars Anmanis fired over from inside the box before Gastaldelo missed an even better opportunity, dragging his effort inches wide of the post.

Instead, Daugavpils sealed the victory deep into stoppage time. After Maksims Kopilovs effort was blocked, the loose ball fell kindly for Raivis Skrebels, who smashed a right-footed finish into the top corner to score his first league goal of the season and wrap up a deserved 2-0 victory.

The result sees Daugavpils celebrate a tenth league win of the campaign, while Tukums suffered their seventh consecutive away defeat.
