Tonybet Virslīga Matchday 14 saw BFC Daugavpils survive an energetic opening spell from visitors Ogre United before striking three times to secure a convincing 3-1 home victory, ending their six-match winless run in the league.

Ogre United started aggressively and nearly stunned the home side inside the opening minutes. Johnson Kabagambe forced Jānis Beks to make two good saves, while Markuss Ivulāns and Haralds Silagailis also tested the Daugavpils defence with long-range efforts. Beks was forced into several interventions during the opening ten minutes as Ogre looked for a fast start.

After weathering the pressure, Daugavpils slowly took control of the game. Artem Garzha became increasingly influential between the lines and helped create several dangerous situations for Mamadou Sylla and Joel Yakubu, although Ogre goalkeeper Ņikita Parfjonovs initially kept the visitors level. Daugavpils did score the first goal of the match, when Rostand Ndjiki got a chance against the goalkeeper, but the flag was up for offside and VAR confirmed it.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 41st minute. Garzha collected the ball in the penalty area and was brought down by Japanese defender Kaito Kumakura, with the referee immediately pointing to the spot. Midfielder William Mukwelle stepped up confidently and blasted the penalty into the top-left corner to make it 1-0.

Daugavpils doubled their lead right before halftime. After a cross inside the box, the ball eventually fell kindly for Rostand Ndjiki, who calmly finished low into the corner in the 45th minute to hand the hosts a comfortable two-goal advantage heading into the break.

Ogre attempted to respond after halftime with several substitutions, but the home side remained dangerous on transitions. In the 58th minute Daugavpils effectively killed the game off with the goal of the evening. After an initial blocked effort, Rostand Ndjiki left the ball to Artem Garzha and from the outside the penalty area the Ukrainian fired a precise low strike into the bottom corner from distance for 3-0.

The visitors managed to pull one back thirteen minutes from time. Following a corner kick, substitute Emils Sprukts delivered a cross to the near post where Marks Pačepko was quickest to it and headed home to reduce the deficit to 3-1.

Ogre still searched for another goal late on, but Daugavpils remained largely comfortable defensively and even came close to adding a fourth through Maksims Kopilovs and Ndjiki during counterattacks.

The victory ended Daugavpils’ six-match winless streak and marked their fifth league victory of the season. Ogre United meanwhile continue to search for their first win of the campaign, suffering a seventh consecutive defeat and remaining rooted to the bottom of the Virslīga table with just three points from fourteen matches.

BFC Daugavpils vs Ogre United – 3-1 (2-0)
